| Most recently I have been exploring interiors, the contrast of outside and inside, dark and light, and the contemplation of the lone figure. I tend to work in a series of paintings, exploring ideas again and again. At the moment I am looking at light pouring in, energizing the relative stillness of the interior world. I am interested in the simple everyday things that we all experience. I often paint small studies to explore colour, feeling, composition etc before making larger works. I have worked on a variety of subjects over the years, largely inspired by the urban life around me, but also on other ideas, including a series of Shakespearian heroines, and the dark side of fairy tales. Usually in my highly textured paintings I try to capture the intensity and flow of the fleeting moment, the play of the light, and the pleasures, fears and frustrations of everyday life. I love the drama of the quiet moment. |
